Limited Brands Partners with Local Companies for United Way of Central Ohio's Community Care Day

In the single largest volunteer effort in central Ohio, more than 4,700 volunteers from 75 local companies marked the 15th United Way of Central Ohio Community Care Day by tackling more than 130 projects at United Way agencies. Approximately 100 Limited Brands associates volunteered their time on Sept. 20 to take part in the event. From painting and landscaping to delivering meals to the homebound, volunteers contributed more than $400,000 dollars in equivalent labor costs to beneficiary agencies.

Limited Brands associates gave their time to Camp Mary Orton, a social service agency founded more than 100 years ago to promote strong families and a strong community. Associates painted, mulched trails, trimmed trees, and mowed and landscaped the grounds.

Other corporate volunteer partners completed various projects throughout the city. Volunteers provided tutoring services to students at the Columbus Literacy Council and partnered with Heritage Day Health Centers and Lutheran Village of Columbus to provide their clients a day at the zoo. School facilities in Columbus Public, Groveport Madison Local and Southwestern City districts benefited from an estimated $108,000 worth of facilities maintenance work.

"People want to be personally involved in helping others. Community Care Day gives volunteers the opportunity to see first-hand the needs of our community and work on projects that make a difference in people's lives," said Janet E. Jackson, president of the United Way of Central Ohio.
